Suitability of reclaimed wastewater effluent from decentralized wastewater plant for irrigation

Abstract Decentralized wastewater plants have been proven to be cost-effective, easy construct and operate widely used in small ruler communities. The suitability of reclaimed for irrigation purpose was evaluated this study based on the various water quality parameters, international standards water–irrigation guideline (JS 1766). Twenty-seven samples were collected from a decentralized plant that is located Balqa Governorate Salt city, Jordan. Samples analyzed pH, electrical conductivity, major anions cations, as well biological oxygen demand, chemical demand total suspended solids. Study results show slightly alkaline nature. According Jordanian domestic standard, use has mild-to-moderate degree restriction. Using US Salinity Laboratory classification scheme, there high salinity medium sodium water, 50% falls area (C3-S2) suitable many types soil with low risk increasing exchangeable content. chloride hazards, can moderately tolerant plants. 74% residual carbonate (RSC) less than 1.25 meq/L hence irrigation. recommends treated considered non-conventional source
